The African country of Cameroon will exempt solar modules from import duties and other taxes starting from January 1, 2024. The exemption also applies to drinking water, biomass and wind energy facilities for 24 months.

The government has included the provision in the Finance Law 2024 to be published in December 2023, the Association of Off-grid Electrification Professionals of Cameroon (APELCA) announced, and recently, the country’s Ministry of Finance issued a notification detailing the exemptions a list of selected devices. The government says it aims to support drinking water, renewable energy, health, livestock and fisheries as priority sectors.
Cameroon's hydroelectric power generation system is severely affected by drought and insufficient rainfall, so there is a need to diversify power sources. According to reports, power outages in the country have had a greater impact on businesses.
Previously, according to the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the government has proposed to eliminate a number of taxes within 10 years, including stamp duties on renewable energy equipment, and also reduced tariffs on imported renewable products. This means that starting from the beginning of 2024, Cameroon Renewable energy equipment has been fully exempted from import duties and taxes.
